Some of these pictures are repeats found on post cards and other Magic Mountain guides. However, the center of the guide photo (the centerfold?) is a splendid shot of the bottom of Valencia Falls & Fountains. I think this is still mostly there, however it has two roller coasters running thru it and looks very different. I think I see a before and after project coming.
That sign is still there (but with Six Flags on it) along with the little building that used to be a info and gift shop, I think it just has signs on it now. I always wanted to stop there but never did.
If you like amusement and theme parks (who doesn't?) check out Shane's Amusement Attic, I hope you have about 3 or 4 hours to kill, theres 46 pages!
See you on Super Bonus Sunday~!

This is one of my favorite souvenir items from Magic Mountain.
This is awesome! I want one of these. MM sure looks like a beautiful place in those days (before the development of every square inch of that area).
Hey, when did "Spilliken Corners" get added? I can still smell the candle wax from the candle shop!
That little building is still there, but boarded up. It's in the Wendy's parking lot. The current sign, I believe, is not the same as in their photos. I seem to remember them changing it a few years back.
Oh, and I think I know what happened to the Ol' 99 train. It's sitting in the yard of a pet sitting serving about 3 miles south of MM. Email me if you want more info.
Matterhorn; this is one of my favorite guides too. I even have a souvenir “Detachable Snapshots” book that has 12 “process color prints” they are the same photo’s from the guide!
Major; I have a “What’s new a MM” flyer that has the New “Spillikin Corners” and the New “Colossus” So I would say the “first large scale yea-round crafters village opened” in 1978. By 1981 it was also referenced as “Spillikin Handcrafter’s Junction” Print shop, pottery, candy, candles, blown glass, leather & wood products, and tons more. It was kind a fun, the candy was my favorite too!
Jed; I know the name & color on the sign has changed, but did they replace the whole top part? The pole has got be the same - that sucker is very unique and I know I just saw it last week? The Ol' 99 train is 3 miles away??????? Please tell me more: VintageDisneylandTickets.com
I have an original Chicken Dinner Rest menu that was mailed to my parents when my grandparents took my sisters there and the postage date on it is 1968
Awesome work! Thanks for sharing it with us!
