Grad Nite - 1972 Revistied

Its June 16 so its must be Grad Nite '72 at Disneyland - Groovy baby!

In 1968 mini-skirts were not allowed (link) but in 1972 there are "appropriate attire"? As always, Hold Your Own Ticket!

Looks like you could make easy payments on your Grad Nite '72 Ticket. Why was this $9 ticket $10?

The Grad Nite Photo return card is upside down or the serial number is upside down.

This Grad Nite 1972 program was posted here on the blog back in June 2009 and is another great donation from “Stuff from the Park” – Thank you Mattherhorn!

They lifted parts of this drawing from the Grad Nite ’71 Program cover (link), the ’72 version is condensed and has some changes (try and spot them all) but the same “Grads” are riding the bus in ’71 & ’72!

All that Roaring ‘20’s Jazz”, did Knott’s see this? The Sound Castle, Ltd. is still a Grad Nite favorite. Is that Helen Reddy? This being June 14, 1972 I’d say she is two seconds away from major fame, Wikipedia has this to say about Helen in 1972: “The single (I am woman) actually barely dented the charts on its initial release in the summer of 1972, but it wasn't long before female listeners adopted the song as an anthem and began requesting it from their local radio stations in droves, spurring it on to re-enter the charts in September and become a hit. "I Am Woman" earned a Grammy Award for Female Pop Vocal Performance and at the awards ceremony she concluded her acceptance speech by famously thanking God "because She makes everything possible"."

Smokey and the Miracles, good times indeed. The Grass Roots and some other folks rounded out an amazing Nite of entertainment.

Is your High School on the list?

There’s that fun bus again, check out the guy sleeping in the first row!

Grad Nite - 1975

It’s Grad Nite at Disneyland June 11, 1975. Make sure and check out the program from Grad Nite ’75 on my previous post here (link).

The usual rules will “help to maintain the Gran Nite Party atmosphere”.

From the Fall-Winter of 1975, here’s Vacationland magazine with America on Parade on the Cover.

The more I see this of this Parade the more I like it. This appears to be the first version, man I love that giant sandwich and 20 foot tall turkey! The blog has a very special “America on Parade” post coming soon, I won’t give it away but it involves a round picture.

This issue has some great Disneyland articles, here’s the first page from a few of them.

The Metro Monorail back when she was one of the stars of mountain.

Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire issue.

Grad Nite - 1969

Is everyone ready for some Disneyland Grad Nite fun? If you have’t seen enough Grad Nite stuff today (or by the end of June) check out my previous (30?!?!) Grad Nite posts here (link). Jumping a little ahead on the date, this Disneyland Grad Nite ticket is from June 19, 1969. Were disembodied heads really necessary? Oh well, they don’t detract from awesome star-twinkle things and that cool row of Castle Logo’s under the heads.

According to Grad Nite Committee Rules” Is that the High school’s committee of Disneyland’s committee? For goodness sake – “Hold your own ticket”, don’t trust your date!

Bring this card with you (hold your own card?) “Only two people in any one picture” I think I’ll leave that alone.

Wow, neato graphics on the reverse side. How fun to get this in the mail a couple of weeks later with your Grad Nite photograph.

Grad Nite 87

I’m not done torturing you with Grad Nites yet, here’s a fun neon crew from Gran Nite ’87! The girl standing at the entrance of the Omnibus looks like she has a deep voice and is also running the entire show, everyone else just looks, well, kind of nerdy (this coming from someone who owned one of those skinny ties the guy on the upper right is wearing).

Over 1,000 schools participated in Grad Nite ’87! I wonder how many grads “fantasized with the magic of Captain EO”? Awesome Rocket Jets photo, wow! There's (Rainbow?) Mickey with a new 1987 Star Tours. Don’t forget, Star Tours closes July 26th 2010 until May 2011 for the installation of Star Tours 2.0. I'm going to try and see the last showing of 1.0 in July and the first showing of 2.0 in May 2011!!!

Everybody Wang Chung Tonight” is that a question or a statement? Anyway, rock with them, Bobby Brown, Krash and some other people that I will admit I DO remember…

We were all there” how corny!

Now I know why there are so many schools listed on these later grad nite programs, 1,000 schools is a lot! Mine is on there, is yours?

Grad Nite - 1990

Grad Nite 1990 is brought to you today by blog reader "The Julanders" - thank you for the awesome scans! The contributor commented that their 1990 Grad Nite materials weren't as "colorful or catchy" as some of the other 1990's grad Nites. Maybe not a colorful, but they're pretty catchy. $25 buys you the magic. To keep the "atmosphere magical" you wont be wearing your "midriff outfits" or "thonged sandals" to this event.

It does lack color... Looking at the events of 1990, we were dealing the recent after effects of a massive oil spill and a war in the Gulf was just around the corner, sounds kind of familiar.

Jody Watley is the only name I recognize - can you believe this was 20 years ago!

Is your school on this long list?

A 1990 Dream Machine ticket, "Sorry no win" I'm shocked!

Look where The Julanders stayed! Far out!

And lastly this photo cover is not from The Julanders, this is from my collection but not my grad nite. Out of respect for that awkward period we all went through as adolescents I wont post the inside photo.

Thanks again to The Julanders for these great scans!

Grad Nite - 1990's Style

Grad Nite in the 1990's was certainly a decade of change. Shown in today's post are grad nite programs from 1992, 1994 and 1997. These aren't nearly as fun as the 60's and 70's version, so you get three for the price of one today!

1992

1994 - Someone went nuts with Print Master Deluxe!

1997

Got Munchies??? That sounds so wrong....

Grad Nite - 1985

Are you ready to party like its 1985? Grad Nite ’85 looks almost like parody of the 1980’s! Let’s start of with the traditional program.

Squeaky clean 80’s fun. Lower right photo, dude on the left with that hat is too cool! Hey, I had a tie exactly like his, oh man, I still have it!

Those are some motley looking crews!

No autographs or Grad Nite photo – so lonely…

Lot’s of Southland schools attending this special night. I think there was a Grad Nite last night and another one Today as the park closes at 9:00pm, three hours early!

The dress on the cover girl for this gate flyer matches the colors on the horse! Coincidence or “Disney Magic”?

Call me boring, but I’d be parked with a tall cup of ice cold Coke listening to the Coke Corner Pianist (in fact, that’s what I did at lunch today!).

Does anyone else smell hair gel, mousse and excessive eye liner?

This brochure was the “Pre-Grad Nite” handout. Does anyone remember Hit Radio “KKHR” 93FM, I sure don’t!

At 18 I actually did want a new (1983) Cadillac, but I was somewhat alone among my peers. Maybe they should have put the Firebird photo in this brochure instead.

Let’s play a game, shout out when you become disqualified; Denim Outfits, Turtlenecks, Jackets with organizational names, jackets without lapels, zipper jackets, windbreakers, bolo ties (I know that's you!), hiking boots (darn – I’m out), or tennis shoes.

Chaperone tickets are not to be used by Graduate or Graduate’s Guest.

I’m going in with my hiking boots on, maybe they won’t notice!
