Queen Mary Stuff

Today’s post is a shameless piggy-back to Major’s excellent Queen Mary post from yesterday (link). I’ve had these Queen Mary paper goodies sitting in my “to post” bin for months just waiting for the right time and now here it is.

First up a flyer from 1979 explaining what the tours and the Queen had to offer. I notice no mention of the Helicopter rides that were once offered from the parking lot (my one and ONLY helicopter ride in 1977) maybe it had already crashed at this point?

$3.75
seems fair enough for January 7, 1979.

Here’s one of those “postcard packs” I believe it’s from 1978. Is the propeller room gone? I’m glad to hear the “Queen Mary Plaza Tour Approach Complex" has been removed, man that thing was ugly.

Great stuff, and I especially like the postcards. I have a photo of that automobile (to be posted soon), and had no idea what its significance was. Now I know that it belonged to the real Queen Mary!

Great photos. I need to get over there....it's been a long time! I wonder if they still have that car on display? I don't remember seeing any cars aboard the Queen Mary.

That brochure looks familiar. My wife and I visited in 1983 to attend an architecture convention, I think we had the same handout.

The QM was a great place for the convention, the public rooms were well preserved in that great Art Deco style. Very inspiring to the design side.

I do remember that a lot of the "attraction bits I remembered from childhood were either closed or dismantled. I seem to remember "The Living Sea" exhibit erected in one of the holds, and that was gone by 1983.

Thank You VDT, this was a lot of fun.
