Grad Nite - 1978

It’s Grad Nite ’78 (so much for my attempt to post these chronologically!). I hope you're still up for a few more Grad Nites, however as all Grad Nites do, this series will be over by the end of June. This ticket has no colors, but still looks fun, admit one on June 22, 1978.

Typical stuff on the back and don’t make me tell you again to “Hold your own ticket”!

These lucky grads got to “Experience the chilling New Matterhorn.” Neat simple graphics sometimes make a bold statement.

The program has some super late 70’s (not so simple) graphics; I like the shinny chrome lettering. Mickey and Minnie almost look retro, aren’t they cute?

These two pages are supposed to look like this, I’m not sure what mood they were aiming for, but I think they missed it… I’ve also seen better entertainment line ups.

Is your high school on there? MINE IS! El Camino Real, a dead ringer for “Clueless”, it was just a giant social club of which I could only dream of my imminent escape. My only fond memories are the fact that the entire school was air conditioned and was an “open” campus so I could leave for lunch and never come back!

Mickey looks tired...

The back cover art work is fun, too bad it’s got a big fold in it.

And since these grads got to see the New Matterhorn, I guess they got an answer to the question on the cover of this 1978 Special Edition of the Disneyland Line. Come back on Bonus Sunday for a scan of the entire issue, it’s a fun one.

Tomorrow: More Grad Nite? Nah, we’ll take a little break and head down to Palos Verdes to cool off by the ocean, in 1962.

Not only is my High School (Rolling Hills) listed, this is actually my own grad night flyer. I just pulled out my HS diploma, and I graduated the same day as the event, June 22, 1978 (a Thursday). Thanks for posting.

Since so much of my Disneyland experience had to do with the music that they presented... the Grad-Nite posts are a real memory jogger for me. Awesome. Thanks Tim.

Tim - You should post some brochures, block out the year/date, and have people guess what decade they are from, based on the style of art!

Tim,

Thanks so much for posting these Disneyland memories! This is an E-Ticket ride, and I appreciate your running it. :)

Do you happen to know anything about Disneyland's organized evening events in 1969/1970? I'm curious about their special admission events for school groups, not just for grads...If you aren't familiar with them, can you suggest someone who might be?

If you don't respond directly to questions on your blog, would you please let me know by email?

I hope that's not asking to much of you; after all, you've already been so generous...

1978's entertainment lineup is onpar with what Disney provided for usual Grad nites: a couple of current hitmakers (High Inergy had a huge hit in '78, Billy Preston was already a big name with a couple of huge hits to his name by that point, and Rose Royce was known for Car Wash, Wishing on a star, and couple other hits already by 1978. Round it out with a local band and you have a decent lineup. Hey in '82 we had Bertie Higgins ('Key Largo'), Tommy Tutone ('867-5-309/Jenny') and the Pointer Sisters ('Slow hand). Its all comparable to the time.
