Bonus Sunday

Welcome to Bonus Sunday. From Wednesday's "Disneyland by Starlite" post (link) here is the entire Summer 1969 issue of Vacationland Magazine.

Vacationland Summer 1969 - 71mb

The centerfold in all its Vintage Disneyland glory.

"Take Disneyland Home"... Ah ha! So those Pana-Vue slides did have color at one time, who knew??? Hey, how come the Viewmaster reels from the same era never go "red"? In fact, I've never seen a Disneyland Viewmaster reel turn red? They must have used a different type of film than the slides. The old "Tru-Vue" 3D film cards and Pana-Vue slides seem like they are always red!

Help me figure this out. What exactly is going on here? I can't match the photo with the text. It looks to me like Pluto and Mickey are trying to steal that kids popcorn while Goofy watches the whole thing riding a horse sideways???

And for all you "Sugar sack on a drinking fountain" enthusiasts like myself, here you go.

Where was the "C & H Sugar Corner" that they wanted us to be sure and visit?

I miss Japanese Village! And Marineland! Oh, and Movieland Wax Museum too!

Viewmaster reels happily used Kodachrome until GAF took over... once in a while you'll find a much later reel that has faded, but I generally don't want the newer packs anyway. Those very early Tru Vue packets have also turned a vivid magenta, unfortunately.

Herumph! If they weren't going to center the bag of sugar on the drinking fountain, they should at least have put a large red hibiscus flower on the left to balance the composition.

1969. Damn Hippies.

Katella, I notice that bag being off center too! Now that I go back and look at it though, the bag appears to be centered with the Castle and Main St. Maybe it was the drinking fountain that wasn't centered....or maybe it's just the camera angle?

My inner 8 year old reminds me the drinking water basins were not centered on the pillar, they were off to the side slightly.

The photographer has the sugar bag centered on the bowl: he should have centered it on the pillar and used flowers to camouflage the asymmetry. The camera would also be moved an inch or so to get the castle lined up as well.
