Here's a few "double page" gems...

Anyone want to pan for gold?

I'm happy to report that Dapper Day at Disneyland was a blast! A nice turn out of a couple hundred well dressed, polite classy people - at one point it actually felt like one of those old Disneyland slides had come back to life. Checkout some pics from the event on Daveland's website (link). The event is set again for February 2012, I'll be there, you should try and get there too.

We don't presently have clothing that would quite work for Dapper Day events though I like the concept.

Next weekend we have an event in San Diego county called The Rendezvous in Poway where dozens of historical reenactors camp out in Old Poway Park to exhibit aspects of life from different decades of the 19th Century. Friday is for school tours and Saturday and Sunday are for the public. Our 1907 Baldwin 0-4-0 steam locomotive will be operating both Saturday and Sunday and there will be track-side train robbery skits on most trips.

We will dress up in western and/or Victorian clothing on Saturday and participate in the robberies on Saturday and then operate the train on Sunday morning.

Both days the event runs from 10-4 and the last train departure is scheduled for 3:45. The event is free. Train rides are 50¢ for kids and $2.50 for adults. If you plan to come to the train often, consider the annual pass which is $35 for a family of 4 for a year and includes train rides whenever we operate for the public and a 15% discount on the store merchandise.

Thanks for another great Vacationland issue!

Circumstances prevented me from attending this year but I will be there in February!

By the way, keeline, you don't have to wear clothing from another era, you just dress up in nice clothes - like people used to do.

Thanks for the link to Daveland's photos of Dapper Day... so far they're the only ones I've seen.

OK, on the Vacationland page with "A Few Highlights of Your Visit To...", there is a picture of an Indian boy sitting on a rock with his mom next to him waving. I don't EVER recall seeing a photo of those figures before. Were they part of the oft-photographed Friendly Indian Village, but just over to the side?

I don't know for a fact, but my guess is that the two Indians in the photo are real people, not figures. For both the woman and the boy, the muscle tone and the posture look very natural.
