Light Magic Delayed?

Please accept this less than stellar flyer for today’s post. It’s about as exciting as Light Magic itself, but hey, not every post can be a gem…

Looks to be a beauuuuuu-tiful day in Anaheim, guess where I am???

Um, I am guessing you are in.... um.... Reseda?

Was "Light Magic" really that bad, or were people just peeved that the Electric Parade had gone away and LM was different?

I have a recording from the final performance of Light Magic (September 1(?), 1997) at the Small World viewing area. The Guest Control folks were trying to engage the Guests by having one side of the parade route shout something, then the other side shout something, etc. So, one side shouted out "LIGHT!" and the other shouted "TRAGIC!" "LIGHT!" "TRAGIC!" "LIGHT!" "TRAGIC!" I was as shocked as I'm sure you will be.

I remember these photocopied slips of paper about the change in performances. I believe the change had something to do with the floats/stages being too big and not being able to maneuver around in the backstage area behing Main St. I just remember being shocked one day, to see the Light Magic floats being taken down the parade route very slowly, lights turned off, without any music or any of the performers...and in broad daylight! The CM's that were making sure everyone got out of the way were telling people that this wasn't the actual parade and to come back in the evening to see it. They did this daily, and it was so they could start the first performance at Town Square. I do have video of this, so I guess I should dig it out and get it posted somehow. It was truly unbelievable that with all the bad press and word of mouth, they were willing to let people see this thing in the park in the daylight before the actual performance.

Major, this parade really was that bad AND it was an insult that they got rid of the MSEP after 20+ years only to replace it with junk. I've always said that I'm okay with change as long as that change is BETTER or at least EQUALLY as good as what it is they are getting rid of. Light Magic was neither.
