Welcome to Bonus Sunday.

First up is a great Vacationland. This is a Walt Disney World Vacationland (don't run, it’s a good one). This is Issue #2 of Volume #1 dated Winter/Spring 1972. Lots of neat stuff in this issue. As I have done before, these full scans of the WDW Vacationlands are done in “Cinema-scope” with 2 pages scanned at a time. The WDW Vacationland seems to lend themselves to this format as shown on the two sample pages below. Enjoy.

Next, from Wednesday‘s post (link), I was attempting to scan the entire issue of Modern Screen but a few things happened; (1) I had to disassemble the entire issue as it was stapled and glued together making flat scans impossible and (2) half the pages aren’t numbers so I got kind of confused. Here’s a few more fun pages, look back later in the week for the full issue (sorry Richard).

From 1984, this is a great soft cover book called "The Spirit of Disneyland". I think this was produced for cast member's, I haven't seen too many of these. Some of it is repeat stuff, there is a great Walt Disney quotes section at the end and lots more.

Today's post is a reprint from within this book of the original concept text that was used to sell Disneyland along with Herb Ryman's great concept art. It's fun to read this and realize some of the concepts were off base, but most of them were right on, and still work today. Enjoy...














The book is filled with lots of photos, none are in color, but some fun ones, here's a few.

Today's Bonus Sunday consists of two "Disneyland Lines" these are weekly publications of the Disney University. These are actually the only two I have, but I am getting copies of some from various sources, so expect to see more in the future.

Welcome to Bonus Sunday! We’ve got two fun, exciting and totally unrelated items for your Sunday reading and viewing pleasure.

First up, from Wednesday’s Grad Nite ’65 Post (link), here is the complete “Tencennial” newspaper souvenir supplement. I scanned the entire supplement at 400 DPI so it’s a large file for 24 pages. The pages are large and FULL of great color photos, I am sure you will enjoy reading this, I sure did.

This next item is a great music “video” from 1975. Yes it the Carpenters singing “Please Mr. Postman”, WAIT, before you close this web page you should know that the entire video was filmed on location at Disneyland, some of it on the mine train! If you like the Carpenters and Disneyland this is for you.

Karen loved Disneyland and it really shows in this “video”. Karen wasn’t known for smiling a lot in these old clips, come on “Rainy Days and Mondays” doesn’t have much to smile about. But check her out in this footage; she really has a genuine smile & excitement about her, something she most likely didn’t experience often enough. While Karen is happy as can be, Richard looks, well, not so much.

Carpenters "Please Mr. Postman" 1975 - 60mb

A copy of this video has been floating around YouTube for a while but the quality is awful and it was re-edited by some amateur! I ripped the copy in this post from the DVD “Carpenters Gold – Greatest Hits”, released in 2002. I highly recommend it. Yup, I am one of those Carpenters and Disneyland Fans; I will admit it in public. Her voice was special and oh so unique, gone way too soon and dearly missed.

Donald Duck in Disneyland - 1955

Today’s Souvenir Saturday is a bit of cheat on my part since this post is just a “link” to another blog, but we all benefit from it. Since last Saturdays souvenir of “Donald Duck Goes To Disneyland" - 1955 (link) was such fun, here is a link to a great blog that has TONS of Little Golden Books, fully scanned.

Well folks, it's June and besides weddings, it's GRAD NITE month! I hope you are ready to see plenty of Grad Nite tickets and goodies this month!

Grad Party '78, This isn't really a Grad Nite, since it's a daytime event for June 8th 1978. Mickey and Goofy look pretty "thrilled". This ticket is punched void, so don't try and copy it and time travel back to used it.







Just a little souvenir oddity. From one of those great wood burning sets (I bet gents over 40 know the smell as soon as I mentioned it) this one is from 1955 I would guess, the graphics on the box are great, way too big to scan. Progressland, notice it says entrance to "Disneyland Park"....

I was going to post the entire WDW Vacationland Spring 1975 magazine from Tuesday's post, but I got lazy so look for it later in the week along with a Vintage Disneyworld Ticket post.

I did however have a few more scans from Thursday's October 1954 TV Guide post. First up how about a review of Peter Lawford's new sitcom "Dear Phoebe", can't say I recall that one?

This TV Guide is from the New York City Zone. I have other 54/55 TV Guides from rural areas that have less than half the amount of stations. Channel 5 WABD the Du Mont network, great info on the "forth" network here (link) thanks "anonymous".




Here's Thursday's line-up. You 7,000 - 10,000 lucky house holds that have a Color TV are in for a "color treat" tonight - TWO Color programs in one night. Maybe this whole "color" thing might just catch on after all?





"A hundred exciting evenings ahead" that's a big promise, I think they ended up delivering it.

Bonus Sunday - Double Disney News

Today's Bonus Sunday consists of two "Disney News" magazines. This magazine was the official magazine for Magic Kingdom Club Members. Yes I've been promising a post series on the Magic Kingdom Club, it will come soon I promise.

These magazines are more "text" based than the colorful "Vacationland" magazines, but there is actually a ton of neat information in these. First from the Summer of 1966, lots of new things coming to Disneyland. A few great pics of Walt and lots of fun stuff.

Without a doubt my favorite article in this issue, a teaser about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! "It could only happen at Disneyland". I think this has become one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland, I underrated and under-rode it for many years, my loss.
