Tokyo Disneyland 1989 Starlight Passport & 1985 Guide Book

Let’s take a look at another “Disneyland” this one is in Tokyo. This “Starlight Passport” is from 1989. Only good during “Starlight Hours”. Nice graphics on safety style paper.






This “sample” ticket was only ¥3,100, I wonder how much that was in 1989 US dollars?






Here’s a beautiful Tokyo Disneyland Guide book from August 1985. This guide is done in the same style as the Anaheim Disneyland guides of the same period; it wouldn’t surprise me if they were produced by the same group of people at Disney. The entire guide is below, I especially like the big map and the Tomorrowland pages.

Disney Newsreel - Tokyo Disneyland Opens

Following up on yesterday's post, here is a "Disney Newsreel" dated April 15, 1983 showcasing the opening of Tokyo Disneyland.  This is an "inside" newspaper/flyer for WDP, WED & MAPO.

Oh and Disney launches its own cable channel, it will never work!

Tokyo Disneyland - Preview Day Ticket & Early Brochure

Let’s take a detour to a far away Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland! Let’s also set the clock back to the beginning with this neat “Preview Day Only” ticket. The Park opened April 15, 1983, so this must have been before that? If that’s a date code in red, I can only guess that “58.3-24” is March 24th, 1983? Maybe Tokyo Magic over at "Meet the Word" blog can tell us, oh and be sure to check out the amazing “Meet the World” blog (link).






From 1981 here’s a nice glossy brochure detailing what was being planned for Tokyo Disneyland.






Lots of fun details in here, from what I can tell, it came out pretty much as planned. After checking out the place in detail (check out Meet the World back posts for a super tour) I really want to visit this park!





In the description of Fantasyland there is mention of the Mickey Mouse Revue. This was a Walt Disney World original attraction (from 1971) that was moved to Tokyo for the opening of Tokyo Disneyland. According to the current TDL website (link) the Mickey Mouse Revue is “closing permanently May 25, 2009”. I hear it is to be replaced with “Mickey's PhilharMagic” I know some folks like that Phihar Magic show, but it really is awful, just another lame 3-D movie along the lines of “Honey I Shrunk the Audience”. What are they going to do with all those audio-animatronics? I know a large theater in Tomorrowland Disneyland Anaheim with a stale 3-D show that would be perfect for the Mickey Mouse Revue!

Tokyo Disneyland Ticket Book Replica

Taking a trip far away from Anaheim and Orlando, let’s go to Tokyo Disneyland!

Today’s post features a replica ticket book of Tokyo Disneyland. I believe these are still being sold at the Tokyo Disneyland. I think it's a replica of the original 1983 book. You can see my previous post of a REAL 1990’s Tokyo Disneyland Ticket book here (link).

This book is fun and it’s FULL of tickets, I mean FULL. It’s got 50 Tickets. Ten tickets of each letter. It’s a quarter of an inch thick! Boy would that be an incredible book if it was real and they still used tickets! Do they even have 50 attractions?






Traditional Mickey Mouse on the back. I see a modern day “Disney” font at the bottom!






Meet the World ticket. It sounds like a fun attraction, I wonder if it’s still there.






All the tickets, they are on a fun style of paper and look pretty convincing.






The backs of the tickets are for notes. If I ever mail you anything, expect to get one of these!






Let’s compare a real “D” ticket to the Replica "D" ticket. The paper is different, but my “real” ticket is a newer style so they may have updated it. HEY, the Mickey Mouse Revue, reason enough to visit this park.





I’m back for my final few days at the lake, so “Bonus Sunday” will occur tomorrow and will have to last all weekend.

Tokyo Disneyland

Today lets take a small detour from the "B" ticket series, a detour all the way to Japan!

Tokyo Disneyland (TDL) has always intrigued me. I hear it is exceptionally clean and well maintained. It opened April 15th, 1983 and was the first Disney park build outside the United States. Oddly, The Oriental Land Company owns the property and they license the theme from the Walt Disney Company.

While I understand TDL is very much like the original Disneyland it does have some substantial differences. The oddest difference to me is the entrance. Main Street is completely enclosed, which helps for bad weather, but it looks rather strange.

The entire area is called "World Bazaar" and it is indeed Bazaar inside:

Ok, now to my Ticket related part of this post. From the opening in 1983 thru at least 1999 TDL sold tickets the old fashion way, in ticket books!! I know in 2006 they no longer had them, but when they stopped I don't know. If anyone knows exactly when the ticket book sales stopped, please let me know.

This TDL ticket book is really fun to look at. I do not know the year, as they do not have a date code like the old Disneyland Tickets. It is missing the "E" ticket (of course!) but the book is still rare. I have only seen these on EBay a couple of times. I like how they called it the "Big 10" ticket book, just like the old days at Disneyland Anaheim! Nice art work of the park

The back is kind of plain, but lots of fun smiles from the Disney crew!


And just because we are in the middle of the "B" ticket series, here is the "B" ticket from TDL! Notice it's "Westernland". I guess there is no literal translation of "Frontierland" so they choose something that better describes the "land".
