Twenty Nine years ago Disneyland celebrated its
Festival Japan on
March 27 & 28 1982. Given current events in Japan I hope this post can add a smile to an otherwise tragic situation. My thoughts and prayers are with all the fine people of Japan.

This appears to have been a super Festival, Disneyland went all out here, maybe they were in a Japan mood because
Tokyo Disneyland was getting ready to open?

Possibly Tokyo Magic can translate this for us?

Sorry, I can't read Japanese! And as far as speaking it, I only know some basic phrases.
I have a souvenir coin and some chopsticks from this event....oh, and a couple vintage newspaper ads. They are on my "list" of stuff to post. I had the winning bid on one of these entertainment schedules on ebay a while back, but the seller contacted me and said they had "misplaced" the item. :-(
For starters, turn it over, it's upside down. It's Japan, not Australia.
The first two characters (The box and the umbrella)do stand for Japan. The last character, I don't know. I hope it's not a dirty word.
The last character is matsuri. Which means festival. so it just says: Nihon Matsuri, or Japan Festival, or Festival Japan if you prefer.
I remember going to Disneyland during this event and it was fantastic. 29 years ago? Yikes! I wish that I had taken more pictures. I did shoot some Super 8mm movie film of it. I believe they also held a Latin festival back then, too, but I didn't experience that one. The recent Family Fun Days held at Disneyland was like a very small scale taste of what these events were like.
