Welcome to Magazine Monday. From the “this just in” department we’ve got a fun look at Coca-Cola and Disneyland. From October 1965 it’s The Coca-Cola Bottler magazine. I guess you’d call this a “trade” magazine, it certainly was not for the general public.
Diana sure is pretty, a true 1960’s California girl. That nice big “First Fabulous Decade” logo is fabulous isn’t it? For all you “opening day conspiracy theorists" please note; And it was on July 18, 1955, that Walt Disney promised the opening day crowd “Disneyland will continue to grow as long as…” I thought Walt said that on July 17th?
The Coca-Cola Suits visit Disneyland!
Ok, what’s wrong with this picture? This is a great magazine, but between the July 18th flub and this goof they have lost all creditability. Even when corrected (link) its still an odd angle that I don’t think you can get today.
Are you ready for some vintage advertisements? I hope you like Coke, because that's really all this magazine is, one big ad for Coke and its related vendor products.
This colorful Du Pont sure looks refreshing. “Give me a Tab. A Tab? I can't give you a tab unless you order something”.
Westinghouse introduces its Special Location Stack-Type Automatics and blue dress lady looks thrilled.
We’re really getting into Dispenserland now. These fountain heads are worth a small fortune today; I’d love one on my kitchen counter (working of course).
Beautiful artwork on this Cornelius Company ad. These machines aren’t coin operated but man do they look super cool.
Cavalier made Coke machines in all types of shapes and sizes.
Beverage-Air made these interesting coolers. Although I was born in 1965, these are alien to me. When I was a little kid I don’t recall seeing these in “homes, offices & waiting rooms”.
The back of the magazine features, what else, a Coke ad! I don’t know about you, but I have a serious craving for an ice cold Coke because “things go better with Coke”.
Great magazine! As is often the case, the ads are as fun as the main article. Look at all those cool Coke machines! And the dispensers are neat too.
ReplyDeleteDon't they still make Tab? I could have sworn I saw a bright pink Tab can recently.
Great post! Really neat old machines. I know what you mean about craving a Coke. That's how I felt after visiting the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta. All I wanted to drink after that was refreshing Coca-Cola!
ReplyDeleteFantastic mag Tim. Great artwork. Very Cool, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled at the material you've made available through your blog! Thanks so much. I'll be going to WDW at the end of the month. I'm a native Floridian, but I hope to someday get over to Disneyland, too.
ReplyDeleteInteresting magazine! Have never seen this. Thanks for the look.
ReplyDeleteBoy oh boy, this is absolutely fantastic. I love the machines, especially. And those everlasting bottle carriers by Dupont (where you must wait years to find out how long they last) is really a different tune from today's biodegradable world. Such interesting stuff.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I have to say your blog is one of my very tip-top favorites. Your paper collection is outrageous. Thank you for being so generous with amount of time it must take to scan complete magazines, and for sharing all this awesome stuff with us!
You cant get that fantasic view anymore! The new Nemo cavern entrance extends past the monorail pylon closest to the camera!
ReplyDeleteTab is still around. Wikipedia reports about 3 million cases produced in 2008.
