A special movie review for Major! I've only seen this movie once (in the '70's) and its was really weird... I thought it was an old funky movie back then!
I haven't thought about "Island at the Top of the World" for years, and now two blogs post items about it within about a week of each other! I remember the animatronic Killer Whale being pretty cool...
The first time I saw "Island at the Top of the World" I was sort of watching...but I immediately perked up when I heard the dog whimper. The same whimper is used in Pirates of the Caribbean and Mary Poppins!
I especially like the airship Hyperion design in Island at the Top of the World. It is probably the closest to a Tom Swift-style airship that has been included in a completed film. Of course 20th C. Fox was working on a Tom Swift film in 1966-69 and built two full-scale "Aeroship" craft.
We own some parts from the Hyperion, including the 8-ft propeller which replaced the broken one along with the control levers over which the characters fight ("faster" "slower").
We own more and larger part from the Tom Swift Aeroships.
