How about a One Day Passport to any of the Disney theme park in 1982? This complimentary ticket has the “master” Walt Disney Productions Theme Parks logo, which, you gotta admit is very cool.
This ticket was good for one day admission to Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT Center. “The theme park originally was known as EPCOT Center to reflect the fact that the park was built to embody the ideals and values of EPCOT the city.” (wiki-link). This ticket must be from late 1982 as Epcot Center didn’t open until October 1, 1982.
Let’s take a look at a fun Vacationland from the Summer of 1982. Is your favorite Disney character on the cover?
Signs anyone? Bring back the American Egg House, seriously!
And who can forget Southern California’s Newest Family Attraction - "The Kingdom of Dancing Stallions"? Who can even remember it? It opened in 1982 and closed in 1984, however in 1986 the same building become today’s Medieval Times (link). If you’ve never been to Medieval Times, check it out, it’s a blast! (The Dancing Stallions thing looks sorta lame).
Who stole the Grad Nite font for this article's title? Come back on Bonus Sunday for the rest of this interesting article and the rest of the magazine.
Never seen the park logos combined like that....I like it!
ReplyDeleteI believe the owner of Kingdom of the Dancing Stallions went bankrupt after a couple years and then shot himself. There are some elements of the original attraction that are still in use at Medievel Times.
I can't say for sure what divisions were given this ticket, but I do know that I got two of these Comp Tickets with my paycheck from Disneyland in June 1983.
ReplyDeleteEpcot had just opened 8 months earlier (hence its addition to the logo), TDL had just opened 2 months earlier, and New Fantasyland had just opened so Parks & Imagineering Divisions had completed quite a bit of work and this was given to Cast Members to promote and Thank everyone involved.
I personally saved one of my tickets as motivation to visit Epcot. It took me 4 years, but I finally presented it at the main gate at Epcot on my first visit on August 17, 1987
I would get my money's worth by visiting Disneyland for the first half of the day, and then flying to WDW for the second half.
ReplyDeleteThat Vacationland makes me feel old, I think I got mine when it first came out. And no, I don't see Jiminy Cricket on the cover!
Oh wait, there's Jiminy standing on Geppetto's accordion!
ReplyDeleteAw, man,
ReplyDeleteThis hurts! I had that issue of Vacationland, and many more. This issue was one of my favorites. I had a pretty good collection of great Disneyland stuff, but it was stolen about 16 years ago.

Nobody does signage as well as Disney, which is never praised and only noticed when it's done rotten.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for making the sincere effort to explain this. I feel fairly strong about it and would like to read more.
