Christmas in Many Lands at Disneyland - December 17, 1961

****** Originally posted December 16, 2010 ******

Today we've got a fairly rare Disneyland gate flyer from December 17, 1961. This large and detailed flyer was for Disneyland's presentation of the “Christmas in Many Lands” parade.

A very cool stylized map with the brand new extended Monorail beam. The Christmas in Many Lands parade was quite the extravaganza

Where did they keep all these people, floats and stuff? “The Parade of Toys” parade featured Ed Wynn and Tommy Kirk riding in the fire engine!

Christmas in Many Lands was held on December 17th as was the Candlelight Procession, the “Living Christmas Tree” (what was that?) and Christmas Trees Around the World display (at the Pavilion?). Lots of special event dates, times and locations if Jason is still out there.

Disneyland’s “Toys on the March” was featured in the December 17, 1961 edition of the Los Angeles Examiner “Pictorial Living” insert.

Nice two page article about the parade with some great color photos.

For all of you hostesses who dream of enjoying your own parties as much as your guests, here are some great tips and recipes. Brandynog is simply “enhanced” eggnog, enhanced at 80 proof. I'm pouring a glass for the Major right now, anyone else?

The all new 1961 Thunderbird was indeed “Unique in all the world” – also a favorite prop of Rod Serling.

Disneyland Holiday Program - 1988

******* Originally posted December 24, 2009 *******

Can you believe the Holiday’s were once celebrated at Disneyland for only two weeks? Today the park starts out with Halloween in late September and Christmas starts November 13th, it seems to never end.

Splash Mountain coming in the Spring of 1989! Ok, make that the Summer of 1989 (link).

Christmas in the Magic Kingdom. Roger Rabbit looks like he’s all prepped for a Cartoon Spin! It’s Roger’s first Christmas in Disneyland.

The old Hotel’s were still looking good in 1988.

Disneyland NEVER CLOSES… When did they stop closing on Monday’s & Tuesday’s? Yes, I should know this…

Very Merry Christmas Party at Disneyland - December 13, 1985

******* Originally posted December 11, 2009 *******

It’s time for a Very Merry Christmas Party at Disneyland, December 13, 1985. This in-park flyer is printed on thick textured bond paper. I’m thinking this was a cast party, it seems too nice for us regular folks.

Nice holiday entertainment lineup, although I’m not sure how “Krash” fits in.

Bring your camera for a special family portrait with the Characters, where is/was “Small World Meadows”? Check out all those choirs singing Christmas carols throughout the park.

The Disneyland Carolers invite you to join in the celebration.

Don’t miss Disney’s “One Magic Christmas” starring Mary Steenburgen, ok, I’ve missed it for 24 years, in fact, I’ve never heard of it!

Looks like Mary Steenburgen graces the cover of the Winter 1985 edition of the Disney News.

The Disney News had undergone a format change on the prior issue. The magazine is now more Glossy, more Zing, more pages but apparently pretty much the same content. I agree with reader “Dan” who wants more Disneyland articles.

Caption EO looks to be a reality – is history repeating itself?

Back when Disneyland had a real tree. Did I mention they use fake trees now?

Frame Worthy” page in the center of the magazine. Do you suppose some folks actually framed these?

Nice two page article about the Country Bears new Christmas Show… Can you imagine the PR Disney could squeeze from this show if they still had it?

Have we got taste for you” That taste would be the New Coke, which was either a colossal failure or marketing genius, depends how you look at it (link).

Disneyland Passport & "A Night Before Christmas" December 12, 1987

******* Originally posted December 12, 2008 *******

Here’s a pair of Red and Green tickets to help celebrate Christmas.

Up first from December 12, 1987 and not really a Christmas or Holiday ticket, but its red and its dated 12/12 so I’m posting it!

The back reveals this was a complementary ticket and not for sale, so there!

This ticket from December 12, 1982 is odd. The “A Night Before Christmas” on this ticket is not the movie so what exactly was this event all about? A Google search was pretty useless (I kind of like it when somethings not “Google-ized” yet). Does anyone know what this event was about?

Operation Desert Shield Family Holiday Party - December 11, 1990

****** Originally posted December 11, 2008 *******

Operation Desert Shield Family Holiday Party December 11, 1990. I am hoping these were free to all the men and women who served in Operation Desert Shield, no price listed leads me to believe these were complementary.

By 1990 the “Your Souvenir Guides” seem to be published only twice a year, with no “Season” listed on the front. This is the cover to the second edition for 1990 (printed 6/90). That looks like a weird and creepy parade.

Nice colorful map, ah the “Main Entrance Mall” in the north end of the parking lot.

“The Disney Afternoon Premiers this Fall”. “Healthier Food Alternatives” some of these sound delicious. I want the teriyaki chicken at the Tahitian Terrace.

Disney Family Christmas Party - December 10, 1979

******* Originally posted December 10, 2008 *******

Here’s Your Guide to the Disney Family Christmas Party, December 10, 1979. In 10 short years the “Brer’s” will have an attraction all their own with Splash Mountain. Their smiles are infectious aren’t they?

I’m guessing this was a party for cast members and their families; it looks like some attractions were not open. The Haunted Mansion and the Disneyland Railroad are notably absent. However, Tomorrowland was pure joy; PeopleMover thru Superspeed Tunnel, Mission to Mars, Rocket Jets, America Sings. Hey where is Adventure thru Inner Space? Oh well, I’ll go see America Sings again.

Simple but sweet back cover.

Tips for better Disneyland pictures in 1979. I like number two; “Make sure your film is fresh” sounds yummy.

The Black Hole coming December 21st. Let’s just say Disney redeemed itself with TRON in 1982.

Bonus Sunday - Family Circle December 1957

****** Originally posted December 25, 2009 ******

Today we have a special Christmas Edition of Magazine Monday (on Sunday). From December 1957 it’s Family Circle Magazine. This issue features an amazing 12 page article “Especially for Children, a Christmas Story about St. Francis” as told by Mary Martin and Visualized by Walt Disney and staff.

The Little Lame Lamb, a story of Saint Frances of Assisi and the first Nativity Scene” is a wonderful Christmas season story, it’s worth taking the time to read it in its entirety. And as you’ll see, the artwork is top notch, wouldn’t it be amazing to own some of the originals?

Now presented in order, in high resolution and without further interruption, “The Little Lame Lamb”, enjoy.

Oh boy would I like to get this record! I bet the 12 page booklet has all the same artwork as this article just like Family Circle December 1958 and the “Christmas at Disneyland LP”. This must be a shorter story than Christmas at Disneyland as its all on one 45. If I had this record of course you’d be hearing here on the blog.

Before we get to some wonderful vintage holiday advertisements, Family Circle has a memo to its readers. Can you imagine it, they are raising the price of each issue to ten cents?

The ingredients of this fruit cake, minus the fruit, nuts and raisins, sound pretty good. No baking? Chill for two days? What kind of commie cake is this?

That Cookie House looks so yummy! Check out that cool Cookie Carnival Carousel!

“Paging Mr. Kidney, Mr. Kevin Kidney Please…”

Working together to bring people together” and working to keep our monopoly on the telephone industry.

Fruit Nog, Yummy?

Soft and smooth as linen”. Gotta love that Polka dot box!

These last three advertisements aren’t holiday related but I couldn’t resist sharing. Three of these sauces look excellent, I’ll let you guess which one I’ll pass on.

Some things never change (thank goodness). You’ll find a box or two of Lipton's Chicken Noodle Soup in my cupboard, how about yours? That glass soup pan on the electric burner looks so cool!

Well… This is a family magazine and its 1957 so this must be acceptable to show on my blog. “She dreamed she was lost in a London Fog”, maybe she was dreaming because she was being held and molded by her “talented bra… in the prettiest possible lines”… Was Maidenform a Division of Cadillac in 1957?
