Ticket Book Comparison - 1971 vs. 1972

Let’s take a look at some minor yet noticeable changes that occurred with the Disneyland Ticket Books back in the early 1970’s. The Ticket Book on the top is from May 1971 and as you can see the welcome message is printed in two colors, mostly black and then some cool "Disneyland purple", with the “W” being my favorite. The lower Ticket Book from March 1973 is lacking its two-tone welcome message, I think Kevin Yee calls the “declining by degrees”.

The back of Ticket books were really changed around. May 1971 (top) still has the purple castle and the “D” in Disneyland is nicely stenciled. Also Walt’s stylized signature (with an apostrophe 's added) appears on the back of the 1971 book, even though it was removed from the welcome message in 1967 and replaced with “Walt Disney Productions" as show above. March 1972 (below) saw the final removal of Walt’s signature, the "Disneyland purple" has been replaced with red, the stencil on the “D” is gone and the Disneyland font seems to have been tightened up or something. At least the price was the same!

The only printed change on these two “D” tickets is the addition of Bear Country on the March 1972 ticket (below) and all that did was move the Canoes from Frontierland to Bear Country. The bigger change can be seen in the Globe safety paper. Notice on the 1971 ticket the watermark lines are sort of a zig-zag of straight lines (like the one in the header of this blog). On the 1972 ticket the lines are now rounded or wavy - groovy baby.

The “A” ticket appears to have been printed on the older style of paper. There were no “E” tickets left in this book (naturally) and I’m too lazy to dig up one from the correct year, but you can see one from 1973 here (link).

From what I can tell the attraction list has one new land and one new attraction.

Circus Fantasy at Disneyland - February 1 and 2, 1986

Are you ready for a “Circus Fantasy” at Disneyland? From February 1 and 2, 1986, I believe this was the first year of “Circus Fantasy” but not the last, see my "Circus Fantasy 1988" post here (link).

PSA, a Pontiac, Video Cassettes, TV’s with a picture tube and a Camera that uses film – all of these things are gone; it’s been a long 25 years!

There is a ton of entertainment, even if it does seem kind of odd. “Clown Alley” – no thanks! Captain Christopher Munoz, the Human Missile – sounds intriguing. The “Now Sound” with Airplay, wasn’t the “now sound" back in 1969? And Clown Face Painting so even the guests look creepy.

Another passport I need to find for my collection, anyone have one of these???

Annual passport at $109 seem like a bargain!

One lonely "E" Ticket - October 1963

This Disneyland ticket book from October 1963 has only one ticket left and it’s an “E” ticket – how could that have happened?

All five of Walt's realms are represented on this classic longer form “E” ticket. Ironically, 48 years later four of the realms still have the same attractions! If only they had kept Nature’s Wonderland.

It’s all good.

$3.95, that’s about the price of a Churro.

It’s been a while since we had a vintage Vacationland, here’s the cover to the Fall 1963 issue.

Even though the “River Belle” has been remodeled a few times it still looks pretty much the same today.

The entire show is presented in “Audio-Animatronics”.

Great early color photo of the interior – I want one of those chairs!

Yummy! Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire issue.

Magic Kingdom Club Junior Ticket Book - February 1974

Taking yet another look at some Magic Kingdom Club goodies, here’s a fairly rare Junior Magic Kingdom Club ticket book from February 1974. This is the last issue of the larger style tickets (this ticket book is the size of a dollar bill) Summer 1974 would see the introduction of the smaller (and less exciting) ticket books that would remain until Spring 1982.

This particular ticket book is marked “Employee Discount Books” so technically this is no longer a Magic Kingdom Club book and was probably even cheaper that the club price of $4.75

Eleven Magic Key Coupons are included with the admission ticket. The “Junior” designation is no longer used at Disneyland, some ticket collector guy should know when they stopped using it???

Inner Space, Flight to the Moon and the People Mover make me dream for this Tomorrowland – American Sings grand opening is still a few months away.

Disneyland Pumbaa Parking Lot

This parking lot ticket is from that sad period when Disneyland was transforming its former parking lot in the Second Gate.

Is that the strawberry field?
