Newsweek - July 12, 1965

Welcome to Magazine Monday. Today's we've got a great edition of Newsweek from July 12, 1965.

The Disneyland article is only 3 pages long but its well written and informative. Also mentions of Freedomland and Colorado's Magic Mountain.

Disney tries to discourage long lines at popular rides by raising the price!

Nice interest rate from El Dorado Savings.

A little bit of Alice history for the Alice fans out there.

Now for some vintage advertisements. Who can forget Quinine Water (Malaria victims most likely) - blue tinted bitter soda water, sign me up!

By 1965 Rambler had some decent looking modern styled cars such as this Classic Station Wagon looking very similar to a 1965 Chevelle!

I had a 1965 Sedan De Ville that I bought from the original owner with 55,000 miles on it - I sold it in 1983 for $250 because it needed brakes and I clearly needed my head examined! It was a big car, but this print ad might be exaggerating the long low profile just a bit.

Stunning artwork - I miss the real space programs, back when America was number one and proud of it!

The usual disclaims apply here; Smoking is gross and deadly. Do Viceroy's and hot dogs make a good combination?

Walt Disney World - Readmission Ticket

We've seen a few Disneyland "Readmission Tickets" (link) on the blog but this is the first Walt Disney World "Readmission Ticket" I've seen or posted. It's undated but since its the larger size ticket it must be from the early 1970's.

Can we get a refund on this ticket?

Preferred parking at Disneyland - 1996

Do they still have preferred parking at Disneyland? I'm thinking they don't. This 1996 preferred parking ticket may have been for annual pass holders that got to park in the front part of the old parking lot. I think that's what its was for but I'm not sure. Any know for certain?

Disney Employee Group Insurance - 1975

This Disney employee insurance program booklet from 1975 sure is amazing. How many of us wishes we had insurance like this? No only does it provide excellent coverage but Disney pays the entire cost of the basic insurance!

Rohm & Haas Reporter - 1961

Welcome to Magazine Monday. Rohm & Haas was a leading supplier of chemicals for the paper industry and Plexiglas. They're still around (link) but as of 2001 they are a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company. The cover of this September – October 1961 edition of Rohm & Haas Reporter features some cool little Plexiglas shapes.

This five page article on Disneyland is a bit of a recycle from the large format guide books of the late 1950’s, but still has some fun photos and is a great read.

You mean to tell me those crocodiles aren’t real?

Lots of technical stuff about Acrylic emulsions and formulas. Today’s paint at Disneyland looks amazing, almost like its still in liquid form - now I’m thinking they’ve been using high tech paints for decades.

The Living Desert really was a Painted Desert! Hey, there’s talk about the slurry in Tomorrowland (blue) and Fantasyland (green). All this time I’ve been calling it slurry when it’s really just “Acrylic-based paint”. Whatever its called I want it back!

There are no advertisements in this trade magazine so you’re going to learn about chemicals. If I’m not mistaken the reason this magazine has aged so well is explained right here.

Those Plexiglas models look fun to play with, I wonder what it sounds like if they all hit the floor at once?.

Apparently Dan River used chemical in its fabrics, who knew? I’m not sure about the ladies, but the men’s clothes look cool and contemporary to me.

In the early 70’s we had a dry cleaners at the corner of Fallbrook & Victory (attached to the Food King) they had a Plexiglas ball exactly like the one shown here, it always reminded me of Wonder Bread.

Walt Disney World - January 2, 1976

Are you ready to spend some time at Walt Disney World? Let's park the car first.

January 2, 1976 - could it really be 35 years ago?

Here's your handy parking lot flyer detailing your ticket choices.

Your calendar of holiday events in the Magic Kingdom.

If you're lucky your travel agent or hotel provided you with some of these Courtesy Guest ticket books, good for any 5 adventures in the Magic Kingdom.

While these tickets are good for any attraction, they do look a little drab, sort of like a 1975 AMC product.

Nice attraction lineup.

Now a few pages from the January 1976 edition of "The World News".

And lastly if you've got some spare time on your Florida trip be sure and check out NASA!
