1969 Disneyland Parade

These press photos are dated 1969. I should know the name of this parade, but being the huge parade fan that I am (not) I have no idea? Fantasy on Parade? Very Merry Christmas Parade?

Richard Burton does a cameo on a horse.

The Candlelight Ceremony, a little dark but hey, its at night!

Magic Kingdom Club 19th Birthday Party - December 11, 1976.

At one time the Magic Kingdom Club used to celebrate its birthday, this ticket was for the 19th Birthday Party held on Saturday December 11, 1976. “Disneyland” is only printed once on this ticket and in pretty small letters. “Fasten Ticket Securely and Keep in Full View” its obvious yet I’ve never seen it on these types of tickets.

Here’s the cover to a souvenir photo from the event.

Little Josette looks happy to be at the Magic Kingdom. Hey, that little bench is the same one I sat on in 1970 (link).

Fun drawing on the mailing label.

Here’s Josette in 1974 with what I assume are her parents. Again she’s got her name on her shirt, I wonder if she wanted to be a Mouseketeer?

Fantasy on Parade Press Photo - December 10, 1965

What better what to celebrate the Holidays than a parade with a giant cigar puffing roster and a sad eyed camel from December 10, 1965.

Credit where credit is due.

This ticket is being rebroadcast from a December 18, 2008 post (link) The Gala Premiere of Walt Disney’s Fantasy on Parade - Saturday Evening December 18 – 8:00 PM.

Cool drawing on the ticket.

Disneyland Snapshots - February 1969 - Part 2

Here's a few more Disneyland Snapshots taken February 1969. If you missed Part 1 you can see it here (link).

Up first, three nice shots approaching the castle. No ill will towards the Partners Statue, but it's too bad this view is no longer available.

Checkout the lady in the yellow pants, that vertical color bar shirt is amazing!

I've never seen any swans at Disneyland, were they planted?

The motley crew takes a little break in a deserted Frontierland.

Looks like a real town.

Looks like the Hills Bros Coffee house (link). They should bring this spot back as a coffee location, its wasted space now.

Adventureland bathrooms. Neato Totem gate!

Check back later this month for parts 3 and 4.

Japanese Village Free Child's Ticket - 1973

In the little home movie from yesterday's post we got a quick glimpse of Japanese Village (identified by Major, thank you !). So if you want to go spend the there, here's a free child's ticket from 1973. Also good for 10% off admission to Movieland Wax Museum.

Affix (who says that word anymore?) 6 Pepsi cap liners to the back? Sounds like a sticky mess to me..

The Magic of the Mountain - Revisted

Its time for another vintage Magic Mountain post, this time the clock is set way back in the parks history. While not dated, this souvenir guide book is most likely from 1971, the year the park opened. A couple of years ago I posted a similar souvenir guide book (link) which was probably from 1973 or 1974.

Be sure and check out the Bonus Video at the end of this post

On the left we’ve got a little history of the Valencia Valley. On the right is some stellar concept art (which leads me to believe this is from 1971) – do you suppose anyone has the original of that concept art?

The two top photos are screaming “before & after” – I’ve still got my 2010 pass, hmmm.

Metro Monorail spotted! Yankee Doodle Dandy was even more boring than it looks.

More METRO Monorail, this time its soaring over El Bumbo. In the video at the end of this post you’ll seem more of El Bumbo than you’ll ever want to see.

Here's my best attempt at now photo (link).

More METRO Monorail! Top right photo – wow that's a wide angle lens! The Spin Out was recently removed, there's just an empty cement slab there now. Eagles Flight – the steel tower route - El Dorado Station (right) was not nearly as high as the concrete tower route - Galaxy Station (left), they both make me want to pass out.

Magic Mountain at Night – is that something like Disneyland after dark? That's the Metro Monorail Contemporary Station on the lower right (link).

The Galaxy did look pretty cool at night – from the ground.

If your'e looking for a “moment of relaxation” you won’t find it at the Oriental Gardens, it’s now the load/unload building for Tatsu. “200 acres with 56 acres reserved for future growth”, I think they’ve used it all and then some, they are currently at 260 acres.

While recently cleaning out my blogger desk, I found an unmarked DVD. I have no idea where I got this or how I got it, but its some great home movie footage so if you’re a vintage Magic Mountain fan (or Knott’s or Lion Country Safari fan) check it out. Its from 1973 or 1974. If you gave me this, thank you.

Here’s a quick synopsis: By the way, the video is a so-so transfer, it has some flicker, so if it gives you a head-ache – stop watching it.

0:00 – 1:30 Film opens at Magic Mountains Valencia Falls, Valencia Terrace restaurant, then its a quick ride on the METRO Monorail over the Log Jammer lagoon & load building,

1:30 – 2:00 Petting zoo.

2:00 - 2:35 Panorama view of the park from a Skybucket on Eagles Flight- Galaxy route. Includes Log Jammer, Metro Station, Gold Rusher, El Bumbo and the Spin Out.

2:35 - 3:00 Walk down the Mountain

3:00 – 5:55 Yes its three entire minutes of EL Bumpo! You get to see the long queue path, the ride and the long exit path – twice!

5:55 – 6:30 The Grad Prix, a "sort of Autopia". The cars were great, but the track was too short and crowded, as you’ll see.

6:30 – 7:10 People being weird, it’s the early 70’s so we’ll let it slide,

7:10 – 7:40 The Trolls, the Wizard and a Band!

On to Knott's Berry Farm:

7:45 – 8:35 Knott’s Ghost Town, Cowboy points gun at Indian?

8:35 – 9:20 Mine Train Ride & Log Ride.

9:20 – 9:40 Don’t blink but it’s a few seconds of the rarely seen Gypsy Camp.

9:40 – 10:15 Back in Ghost Town

Moving on:

10:15 – 11:30 Seals, Dolphins and Coy Fish, is this Japanese Village?

11:30 – 13:48 Lion Country Safari. Looks like they were having some stubborn animal issues toward the end of the footage

The Aggregation - February 1970

Following up on yesterdays post, here's The Aggregation one year later, February 1970. Boy what one year did for clothing styles. I just spotted this photo on eBay (link) yes it can be yours for just $24.95 (ouch). I got the five snapshots in yesterdays post plus about 45 more for way less than that.

Blogger disclosure: I am in no way connected to or will profit from the above sale on eBay.

Side note: I'm not a big fan of breaking up photo collections and selling them on eBay, but I can see why seller's do it. That said, check out the seller of the photo above, he's got some other cool snapshots (link) - interestingly, only The Aggregation shot is $24.95, all the rest are $5.95 or less???

Disneyland Snapshots - February 1969 - Part 1

Here are a few snap shots from Disneyland – February 1969. These are from a large set of pictures that vary in quality but most are pretty good. In no particular order, let’s take a look at the first few that caught my eye, I’ll post more from this set next week.

The Aggregation is ready to jam, if only someone would watch them. How darn cool is that stage, that backdrop, that top planter thingy – I bet I know a few bloggers that could fill those chairs!

It must have been a pleasant February day, sunglass-helmet-hair lady looks dressed for summer (or a rumble). Granny has one of these (link) souvenir bags!! I think I see where the "Tomorrowland Cross" may have come from....

A little blurry but boy do I like this photo; I’ve stood in that exact spot trying to get that exact photo. Is that the Global Van Lines Truck in the background?

Sure enough there’s the van with the boys trying to get it to run and Granny still clinging to that souvenir bag!

Where are all the guests? Who cares, I’m thirsty – I’m gonna get myself a Sunkist Fresh Lemonade then a Fresh Orange Juice.

The front of the Alice car looks a little beat up. Nice legs on the ride attendant, what's her costume supposed to be?
