Souvenir Saturday - Disneyland Shopping Bag

Welcome to Souvenir Saturday. Today’s post is for blog reader “JG” he commented that he really likes the groovy old Disneyland shopping bags and he wondered if I had any. Well I do have one! It’s old and a bit wrinkled, but still scanned pretty nice.

Magic Kingdom Club Membership Card - 1969

Taking yet another look at a vintage Magic kingdom Club card, this one is from 1969. If you missed the previous club card posts, check them out here (link). Mrs. Joy Barnes was the lucky holder of this membership card from the Santa Teresita Hospital in Duarte, California.

I don’t have a 1969 Disney News, but here’s the next best thing, the fall 1969 Vacationland. This issue is one of the more rare and costly issues (I wonder why?) I got this one about ten years ago for $1.99!!!!

“There’s always room for one more”

Instead of posting a teaser article, how about just the titles of the articles? Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire issue.

She's 50 years old and looking great!

"Stub Style" Disneyland D Ticket

Taking another look at Disneyland’s “Stub Style” tickets, today we’ve got a vintage “D” Ticket. This ticket appears to have been a sample, was punched void and has staple holes.

The “D” stub ticket above was probably in one of Disneyland’s magical “ticket binders” which were used at one time to determine the authenticity and value of the old tickets. This page from the “ticket binder” shows the trade in value of the “stub style” tickets. I’ll have a post in the near future that explains (in nauseating detail) how the ticket redemption program worked.

Dixieland at Disneyland - September 28, 1968

This post is a week late so pretend today is September 28th. 42 years ago Disneyland celebrated its annual Dixieland at Disneyland.

On September 28, 1968 and Louis Armstrong and his Dukes of Dixieland once again lead the entertainment lineup, plus Many more! How cool is that drawing of the guys playing instruments. Tickets available at Wallichs Music City, Desmond’s Stores and Bank of America (with BankAmericard).

One extra dollar gets you five more tickets, isn’t the choice obvious?

CLOSED Monday – Tuesday. See lots more Dixieland flyers over at "Stuff from the Park" (link).

Index Card - 1964

Today's post comes from the "backup post" section, this blogger actually had to work this weekend so you get a silly, small post today....

This little index card from March 4, 1964 appears to be in response to a guest question about the times and dates for the fireworks. It's pretty amazing that Disneyland replied on blank index cards! From what I hear now-a-days Disney rarely responds to questions, but when they do I'm thinking they no longer use blank index cards?

Magic Kingdom 1-Day Attraction Pass - 1981/82

Yes another Walt Disney World post! I know there are a couple readers out there that enjoy WDW posts (me too!) so for you non-WDW fans, well, better luck next time….

From 1981/82 here’s a complimentary 1-Day Attraction Passport. This voucher entitled the bearer to one Magic Kingdom attraction passport. Interestingly, this voucher did not get you into the park – it only provided an unlimited passport once you were in the park. I’m pretty sure that well before September 30, 1982 (the voucher expiration date) WDW had switched to “passports only” so simply being “in the park” gave you access to all attractions making this voucher totally useless.

From 1982, here’s your guide to the Magic Kingdom. These guides are larger than Disneyland’s guide of the same period, being about 1 ½ inches wider. That castle is so big it won’t fit on the cover!

Walt Disney Word Tickets - September 1972

While rummaging through the Walt Disney Word ticket bucket for yesterday’s post I noticed this cool WDW Transportation Ticket and figured why not share it? Monorail, Boat or Motor Tram – isn’t the choice obvious?

It’s still amazing to me that Florida’s Monorail doesn’t actually enter the park! The WDW Monorail isn’t on the E ticket as at Disneyland, it’s on the “Transportation Ticket” found on the front of the ticket book. This September 1972 ticket book is the larger style book, pretty much the size of money!

The blue welcome sheet welcomes you to the “Vacation Kingdom”. Those fancy letters on the tickets are your clue that this isn’t Disneyland! Yes the Main Gate admission ticket is missing (don’t ya hate that?). Complete WDW ticket books from 1971/72 are very rare.

The attraction lineup seems small compare to Disneyland of 1972, but they are BIG attractions. Too bad I never saw the Mickey Mouse Revue, somehow I think I would have been totally obsessed with it had I experienced it.

Sharp eyes will notice the “C” and “A” tickets are from another ticket book, but they are from 1972.

This "12 Adventures" book was the larger book, with 7 or 8 tickets in the small book. State tax, estimate price, actual price, value, boy that’s a lot of numbers!
