Disneyland Passport - March 22, 1979

Where were you 31 years ago today? On March 22, 1979 I was at Disneyland! The late 70’s were a great time for me at Disneyland having discovered the freedom of exploring the park without adult supervision.

It’s been a while since we had a Guide Book so here is the entire issue of the Spring 1979Your Guide to Disneyland”.

Your Guide to Disneyland Spring 1979 – 15mb

Here’s all the “lands” boy do I like these guides…

The map of the Happiest Place on Earth.

That’s right, borrow a Polaroid camera for free, just pay inflated prices for the film! By the way, the Polavision was a huge flop. I bought one on clearance at Sears for $99 in 1981 and I still got ripped off! However it was fun, fascinating and satisfying to dismantle it and see what made it tick.

Bonus Sunday

From Monday's 1975 Burbank Nite post (link) here is the complete issue of Vacationland for Spring 1975.

Vacationland Spring 1975 - 123mb

Awesome centerfold! Looks kind of 1980's doesn't it?

Baubles anyone?

It's almost Easter time.

This amazing Mark Twain photo is dedicated to loyal blog reader "Jack".

The "New" Marineland. Is the "Poseidon Adventure" really a proper tie-in for Marineland?

After a fun filed day at the amusement parks how about a great meal?

Disneyland on August 29, 1957

Let’s take a trip to Disneyland on August 29, 1957. A bunch of great little auctions recently went out on Ebay that were from a teenager who visited Disneyland frequently in the late 1950’s. Most of these auctions had; Parking lot Flyers, shop bags, parking tickets and these great little “notes” kept by the Junior guest showing how much was spent at the Happiest Place on Earth. Well, the first group of auctions have already ended and most were outside of my “kiddyland” price range so all I got was this one – so far. I see the seller has recently added 8 more groups of auctions (link). Hopefully I can pick up a few.

From the group I did purchase, here is the Parking Lot Flyer. There’s our favorite thrifty Scottish Dumbo!

That 1950’s family is so cool and they're so happy they’re gleaming!

Summer hours – Open every day!!!

To me, these little notes are the best park of the group. Our Junior guest was very detailed in his/her spending. There's quite a bit of information on these little sheets.

Here’s the parking ticket with the location actually marked, who does that??? Looks like they left the park and came back later that day.

These are the “notes” from the auctions that have already ended and I did not win. At first I felt bad about “borrowing” these pics, but since I did win one of his auctions, seems like it should be ok.

One of the auctions had this postcard, I'm guessing it's rare since it sold for over $200!!!! UPDATE: Major says this sold for a final price of $566 - WOW!!!!

PSA Executive Flyer Club Disneyland Passport - 1988

This 1988 Disneyland Passport is for members of The PSA Executive Flyer Club. The rabbit appears to be late, for a very important flight?

The basic disclaimers are on the back. Did you notice this ticket has three different years printed on it? The back had copyright 1986, the front says “valid thru December 31, 1988” and the front has a copyright for “1984”!

From a previous post (link) here’s a fun PSA/Circle-Vision 360 article from the Summer 1984 Vacationland Magazine.

Castle Views

A quick post today featuring a couple shots of Disneyland’s Castle. Both of these photos are afflicted with the “undated” syndrome so your guess is as good as mine.

Both are 8" by 10", the Black and White photo is on old brittle paper so I would place it late 1950's / early 1960's?

The color photo is on newer Kodak paper, but I have no clue when it was actually taken?

Burbank Nite at Disneyland - March 15, 1975

Happy Ides of March to all you Soothsayers out there, to everyone else; “Beware”.

From March 15, 1975 it’s the 9th Annual Burbank Nite at Disneyland! Sponsored by “The Exchange Club of Burbank” this event was for the wonderful folks of “Beautiful Downtown Burbank”. I like how the font is bubbling with excitement!

From the Spring of 1975 here’s an awesome cover of Vacationland Magazine.

The Vacationland magazine’s really started to get excellent around this time and this issue is no exception. Who else misses the Swiss Family? Even though I don’t like the idea of a Swiss Family Robinson remake, I was sort of hoping for one this year (50th anniversary of the original) because I thought just maybe that would make Disney put back the original tree house, oh well, maybe 2020?

The Royal Street Bachelor’s rock!

Nice article on Disneyland’s Horsepower. Come back on bonus Sunday for the rest of the article and the entire issue.
