Photos of Walt I’ve never seen...

The photos in today’s post have a few things in common; they are all from a lesser know magazine, “The Disney WorldFebruary – March 1966 issue, Walt Disney appears in each one (well, not the cover!) and I’ve never seen them before. Possibly some of these will be “new” old photos of Walt for you as well.

Maybe “The Disney World” should be posted on Magazine Monday’s, but I’m not really sure it’s a traditional “magazine”. There are no advertisements whatsoever and of course it's “all” Disney stuff. Come back tomorrow for the entire magazine on Bonus Sunday.

Susan Hampshire’s pretty face graces the cover. Susan was probably filming that unforgettable Disney classic “The Fighting Prince of Donegal”.

Daveland had a great post this week showing Walt at a press conference in 1966 (link). Here’s Walt at that same press conference but in this photo he's pointing at the press, not the big map. He seems to look “less tired” in this photo, which is interesting given the two photos where probably taken only minutes apart.

This one is my favorite, although I may have seen this one somewhere before, maybe in John Hench’s book Designing Disney ? I have the book somewhere I should check, by the way, it's an EXCELLENT Book, and not a bad price in soft cover.

Jasper, in The Gnomobile” I’ve never heard of this until I read the article with this photo.

Walt receiving Photoplay’s “Front Cover Award”. I wonder how many awards Walt received in his life time. Thousands I would guess.

That's one lucky group of paper boys! Looks like a cool winter day.

Walt buys a share of File-Dex-Co stock, huh? Cool aeriel photo behind them!

Here are a few articles of interest.

I have two more 1966 issues of "The Disney Way", I'll post them soon.

Grad Nite - 1974, 1975 & 1976

The Grad Nite collection on the blog gets a little thin in the early 1970’s, so we’ll pick up with a “ticket only” for 1974, a program for 1975 and a ticket & program for 1976. Be sure to check out the Grad Nite '72 & '73 photos from a post on Stuff from the Park (link). And be sure to visit Disney on Parole for Grand Nite '78 (link).

Grad Nite ’74 from June 11, 1974. Wow, I didn’t know that in 1974 the Matterhorn splashed down right in front of the castle.

What? No “hot pants” for the Ladies!

*************Grad Nite 1975***********

What is with these weird half-tone types of images? They are all over the 1970's programs. Were they trying to save ink or make an artistic statement?

The photos in these programs are always a year behind but manage to look current.

Gloria Gaynor gets a nice real photo, I guess she “never can say good-bye”…

B.J. Thomas looks tired or drunk or both. Who are Skiles & Henderson?

Is your High School on the list? Mine sure is, El Camino in Woodland Hills.

*************Grad Nite 1976***********

Someone kept this June 4, 1976 Grad Nite ticket in their pocket! No price increase from 1974. This must be the only thing that did not suffer from inflation!

Oh man, I can’t wear my turtleneck sweater, darn!

Now that’s a cool and groovy cover. Don't Mickey & Minnie look great?

In a class by itself”, wow, that’s original.

Miracles (no Smokey?), Natalie Cole, nice! With the exception of Natalie, the rest of these musicians make for quite a Motley Crew!

Is your High School on this one?

The happy couple… Well, one of them looks happy.

Grad Nite - 1970 & 1971

Update: This just in from Matterhorn1959 over at the blog "Stuff from the Park", It's Grad Nite 1970!!!! Thanks Matterhorn! Be sure to scroll down for Grad Nite 1971 below after the 1970 program. There is some serious Groovy artwork in this program!

The Raiders featuring Paul Revere and Mark Lindsay? Jackie De Shannon "What the World Needs Now Is Love"... A personal favorite of mine...

Dig the Groovy-ness...

A HUGE thanks again to Matterhorn1959 for these scans, you ROCK!!

**************Grad Nite 1971 ***************

Welcome to Grad Nite 1971! An interesting cover this year, it’s whimsical? I like the half moon and all those smiling grads crammed on Mark Twain. Hey, where’s Waldo?

Linda "Hurts so Bad" Ronstadt! I was a serious Linda Ronstadt fanatic in the ’70's. I still have all her vinyl LP’s (up to the Nelson Riddle album) and I even have the poster of her that was on my wall for years (the roller skates ones). I bet she rocked the park in 1971! Oh yeah, Smokey Robinson and some other folks performed too.

Check out the sun and the bus! Katella Gate, is this the “70's psychedelica” you where talking about on yesterday's post? Or is this (and the cover) just plain wierd?

The Sound Castle Ltd has the Grads Dancing the night away. Does the "dance floor" still have that same pattern? I think it does have some swooping pattern and circles, I'll have to check on my next visit, unless, Daveland - do you know????

Grad Nite - 1969

Welcome to Grad Nite 1969!

The art work on the cover of the program is great!

The program opens up to a large 20 inch section with lots of entertainment for 1969, The Righteous Brothers & a bunch of other folks I've never heard of except in these programs...

Grad Nite - 1968

Getting back to Grad Nites at Disneyland, now it's 1968! This scan of the Grad Nite 1968 program was donated by Matterhorn1959 of at Stuff from the Park, thank you so much! By the way, is that “Opening Day Snapshots” series incredible or what? I hope it never ends.

Tons of Entertainment lined up, wow!

The “Spats” on the small world stage!

Is your high school on the list?

Weird “Color” effect for the black and white photos.

And from my collection, here’s the obligatory photo holder.

This time the photo is missing, there’s probably a story behind that. Print it out and insert your own photo.
