Welcome to Bonus Sunday.

First up is a great Vacationland. This is a Walt Disney World Vacationland (don't run, it’s a good one). This is Issue #2 of Volume #1 dated Winter/Spring 1972. Lots of neat stuff in this issue. As I have done before, these full scans of the WDW Vacationlands are done in “Cinema-scope” with 2 pages scanned at a time. The WDW Vacationland seems to lend themselves to this format as shown on the two sample pages below. Enjoy.

I sure do like this early 70's style of artwork, it brings back many fond childhood memories...






Next, from Wednesday‘s post (link), I was attempting to scan the entire issue of Modern Screen but a few things happened; (1) I had to disassemble the entire issue as it was stapled and glued together making flat scans impossible and (2) half the pages aren’t numbers so I got kind of confused. Here’s a few more fun pages, look back later in the week for the full issue (sorry Richard).

Mystery Ticket

Well I got a trick for Halloween – the stomach flu - Yuck! Feeling a bit better, but today get’s just a tiny post.

Tiny is right, this little ticket is just 1 ½” by 2” and has no perforation or clue as to what it’s for? General Admission maybe? It came from a batch of ticket books from 1969. No serial number and nothing on the back? I love a mystery when you can't think straight!

Knott's Map - 1980/81?

Time for another Knott’s Berry Farm Map. This one is not dated which drives me crazy, I would place it at 1980/81, maybe a little newer. Since the Motorcycle Chase in now the Wacky Soapbox Racers, this must be 1980 or newer. Check out a super post on the Wacky Racers at Outside the Berm (link).






Major Pepperidge over at “Gorilla’s don’t Blog” made this comment on my last Knott’s map post: “I still have no idea where things are in relation to each other. Unlike Disneyland, which I know a lot better!” This is so true! The last time I was at Knott's I was completely lost and I’ve been going since 1970! Plus these maps seem woefully out of proportion and the farm looks very different today.






The amount of entertainment was amazing. Check out all the scheduled shows plus on the right is Snoopy in person and tons of “roaming” entertainment. Does Knott’s have any entertainment like this today?






And of course this post need some color, so here a nice undated picture of the Stage Coach. Amazingly, the Stage Coach is still running at Knott’s!

Modern Screen - August 1955

Taking a look at yet another Vintage Magazine, this time it’s Modern Screen from August 1955. The Disneyland article inside is fun, but a little short and lacking in details and nomenclature. The rest of the magazine is splendid however; check out some of the articles/profiles down below after the Disneyland pages.

No wire hangers!!! Joan Crawford's look seems the complete opposite of Kim Novak. I like Kim's look better....

Senior Fun Days! I don’t recognize any of the special entertainment except “Lawrence Welk” and he’s not even there in person!

Now for a neat early Space Mountain Souvenir. Good old GAF Pana-Vue Slides, guaranteed to turn into magenta mush within 2 decades or your money back. I did the best I could with these, which didn’t help a whole lot, but you get a nice vintage look Space Mountain. (Descriptions are from the slide frames)
