Disneyland "Yesterday" Part 2

Following up on yesterday’s post, this is the more common “red” version of the flyer/brochure that was posted yesterday.

Also from 1959, the front and the inside are identical to yesterday's except for the colors.

The back is slightly different. Today’s “red” version does not list specific dates, but if you check the “blue” version, it does list a few dates in September. This “red” version must have been the basic summer flyer, with the “blue” version being used only near the end of the summer.

I’ve already posted a Vacationland from the Fall of 1959 back in April (link). Here is the cover to the next issue of Vacationland, the “Winter 1959-1960” edition.

Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire issue.

Disneyland "Yesterday" and "Today"

Today’s “Yesterday” Disneyland brochure appears to be from 1959 as it mentions the attractions in the “New Disneyland ‘59”.

Gotta love those little drawings!

Date Nite & Fantasy in the Sky, ah good times…

I was lucky enough to spend a few hours at Disneyland yesterday with Jason who runs the Disneyland Nomenclature Blog (link) and Dave, who is also a former cast member (Dave’s blog link) and Mike caught up with us later (not sure if Mike has a blog).

It’s great to be at Disneyland with other Disneyland enthusiasts, talk about seeing the park from a different perspective, wow! These guys know a LOT about the park, and Jason's “Disneyland Compendium/Encyclopedia” project is mind boggling and truly a masterpiece in the making.

Therefore, today’s “Today” brochure is actually from yesterday.

And of course the map. Oh, we toured the new “House of the Future” that’s inside of Inoventions, I’d like to report it was great, but, well, it was just lame.

VERSATEL Service Days at Disneyland

Come celebrate VERSATEL Service Days at Disneyland, October 3rd thru the October 31st, 1984.

How many of us remember the "VERSATEL" machines from the early 1980's? I sure do, they seemed like magic to me and when I got my first "auto deposit" I celebrating never having to "enter" the bank again!...

I tried in vain to get some information or photos from the web on the original Versatel systems, but it seems all references to the Versatel system have been expunged from the web, odd. At one time "Versatel" (or "Versateller" as we used to call them) was the defatco word for ATM machines, in fact, we never used the term "ATM" until the 90's. Since I no longer bank with B of A, do they still have "Versatel" ATM Machines?

Also from 1984 here is the cover to the 3rd version of the 1984 "Your Souvenir Guide". I posted the entire 2nd version here (link). The first 1984 version (Castle on the front) will get posted in the future, I gotta save some stuff!

And as a teaser to get you to come back on Bonus Sunday, here is the Map from the 3rd edition Disneyland Guide.

Come back Sunday for the entire guide.

Our Silver Celebration: A Family Affair

Here's a fun brochure from 1980. Our Silver Celebration: A Family Affair. Seems to be an explanation of the coming promotion for cast members and vendors families. The cover is a little beat-up, but the rest in in fine shape.

Classic castle shot. I miss the subdued colors.

Do not adjust the focus, we are in control.

A part of the "old" Fantasyland that looks like the "new" Fantasyland.

Great center-fold photo but..... Where was this taken? Is that a wagon they use at Disneyland?

Samples from the advertising department.

A little over used, but a great photo nonetheless..

Fun times...

Walt Disney World - 1969 Preview

It’s time for Florida again, this time lets go way back to 1969. A Complete Edition About Walt Disney World “The Vacation Kingdom of the World”. This booklet is an extensive look at how the Disney company thought Walt Disney World would become. While a lot of these details did end up in the final version(s), several of the ideas died somewhere between this booklet and reality.

Fascinating stuff on these pages, the Western River Expedition would have been amazing from what I have read, same for Thunder Mesa.

Wow, these hotels would have been neat, that big dome at the Persian would have been something to see.

This is the last page of the text. Check out where some of the needed cash would come from “regular cash flow accruing to the corporation from its operations during the next three years”. Counting chickens before they hatch can be dangerous…. Was this the cash that would have paid for Western River Expedition & Thunder Mesa or the Hotels that never were?

The front and back covers are actually one big picture. It’s this great late 60’s style artist concept of the entire “phase one” of the new resort. Hey, is the Monorail going THRU Tomorrowland like it’s supposed to?

Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire 20 pages of this “Edition”, it’s a great Sunday read.

S & H Green Stamps for Disneyland

Blogspot is giving me one heck of time posting photos or maybe it's my ISP?

So this post is abbreviated, there were going to be 6 scans, I'll try and update it later today.

From 1963 or somewhere near there, here's a neat S & H Green Stamps book. We had Blue Chips stamps where I grew up in the 1970's, but these seem like the same thing. I have a bunch of Blue Chip books with the stamps in them, the pages get stiff and kinda yucky when they are pasted full of stamps!

This book related to Disneyland in that you could redeem them for Disneyland tickets! 1 3/4 book for an Adult "Deluxe 15-ride ticket book". Oh boy would I like to see one of those certificates S & H would give you to take to Disneyland.

Some of the places where you would get green stamps. I recall the gas stations had a machine with big circular dials, the attendant would "dial" the amount of gas you bought and the machine would dispense the blue chip stamps.

And of course, who can forget that great Brady Bunch episode (Season 1 I think) where the Brady's have enough books for one large item; the boys want a fishing boat, the girls want a sewing machine, and the fun begins.... Who can tell what the end up getting? Don't look it up on the net...
