Disneyland's "Happiest Show On Earth"

Today’s post is a neat little flyer/brochure/fold-up thing. At about the size of a business card when folded, this 8 panel flyer is chalk full of information. It’s not dated, I would place it around 1963, but Progressland can tell us for certain.

Although this part looks like a ticket, its not, since all this amazing entertainment is included with your admission to the park.

One Million dollars worth of entertainment, wow!

A pretty amazing line up. I love the art work!

Since the Yachtsmen are playing in Tomorrowland and this post needs some color, here is a great photo from 1965. Thanks Dave! (Daveland Blog link).

And there’s a Big Night Time Show too! “Frontierland Nite” square dancing every Tuesday. "Allemande Left with your left hand. - Back to the partner for a Right and Left Grand – now Promenade".

And “Don’t Forget Date Nite”. On a previous post (link) you can see a Date Nite Ticket book and ticket.

Tokyo Disneyland Ticket Book Replica

Taking a trip far away from Anaheim and Orlando, let’s go to Tokyo Disneyland!

Today’s post features a replica ticket book of Tokyo Disneyland. I believe these are still being sold at the Tokyo Disneyland. I think it's a replica of the original 1983 book. You can see my previous post of a REAL 1990’s Tokyo Disneyland Ticket book here (link).

This book is fun and it’s FULL of tickets, I mean FULL. It’s got 50 Tickets. Ten tickets of each letter. It’s a quarter of an inch thick! Boy would that be an incredible book if it was real and they still used tickets! Do they even have 50 attractions?

Traditional Mickey Mouse on the back. I see a modern day “Disney” font at the bottom!

Meet the World ticket. It sounds like a fun attraction, I wonder if it’s still there.

All the tickets, they are on a fun style of paper and look pretty convincing.

The backs of the tickets are for notes. If I ever mail you anything, expect to get one of these!

Let’s compare a real “D” ticket to the Replica "D" ticket. The paper is different, but my “real” ticket is a newer style so they may have updated it. HEY, the Mickey Mouse Revue, reason enough to visit this park.

I’m back for my final few days at the lake, so “Bonus Sunday” will occur tomorrow and will have to last all weekend.

New Orleans Square a Land or...? An Attraction...? An Area...?

A recent post on Disneyland Nomenclature asked about New Orleans Square and if it is was a new “land” or an attraction. (link)

This got me thinking about the Summer 1966 edition of Vacationland.

Just inside the cover is the introduction page and this neato artist rendering of the stair case in New Orleans Square. Notice the text: "This major Disneyland attraction will open this summer."

Two pages discuss New Orleans Square. Obviously New Orleans Squareland sounds silly, but you will notice the writer(s) are careful not to use the word “land”. This fun artist rendering seems a little different than the actual version as built or is it just me?

In fact, the restaurants’ are in an “area”. Let's call it “New Orleans Squareland Area Attraction” or NOSLAA for short. They are also calling it the "French Quarter" my head hurts...

Come back this Bonus Sunday for the entire magazine. Here’s a great ad for the “new” Universal City Studios Tour. They still had the McHale's Navy "make your on movie set" when I first went to Universal in 1975!

Gone Fishing....

Yes I just recently spent a week in Florida, but now I am taking a relaxing vacation!

I'll be at this beautiful place fishing, boating and skiing. If you can guess where this, come on up, the water is perfect!

I'll be back mid-week, even paradise has to end sometime....

The Disney Look - 1987

Taking another look at the "Disney Look”, this time from 1987. If you missed the "Disney Look – 1977” you can view it here (link).

It’s difficult to imagine this was 21 years ago, in some respects it seems like just yesterday, in other respects it seems like a lot longer than just 21 years ago!

United Mainliner - July 1965

From July 1965 United Airlines Mainliner A magazine for United Airlines Guests”. Celebrating Disneyland’s 10th Anniversary, there are a few neat photos and short article of mostly standard stuff. All still fun to look at.

On the back cover, Hertz did a whole series of these “flying man” ads including TV commercials. Awesome 1965 Chevy, I love the triple round tail lights, those seemed so cool when I was a kid, heck they still do!

Disneyland is Your Land - 1981

From 1981, this is a flyer of some kind. Actually, I am not sure where this type of flyer was handed out. It doesn’t seem to be a parking lot flyer, if so, its pretty nice, being glossy print on thick paper. Since it’s good all summer maybe this was in the “Flyer Stands” at the local hotels and auto clubs?

Disneyland is Your Land” That’s getting back to basics, I like it.

Those “11 Adventure Ticket Books” will soon become but a distant memory…

I am so excited” that the Pointer Sisters are on the entertainment lineup! The Spinners, Brenda Lee, Pearl Bailey, Shalamar, and many more, even Buddy Rich, nice!

A larger version of the same map found in the 1981 Disneyland Guide book.

The attraction Line up circa 1981. If I could bring back one extinct attraction on this list it would probably be the People Mover, the Florida version sure brought back a lot of great memories. America Sings is a close second, “Inoventions” needs to be the next "extinct attraction".

All right, who let this piece of 1974 clip art on this 1981 flyer? Oh well, the kids look like they are having fun being stuck in the Brady Bunch era.

And since its summer time and you’ve worked all day, how about a “Summer Night Passport”. Unlimited use of all attractions from 7pm to 1am. You have 6 hours to make use of this ticket, bring your Adidas tennis shoes; you’ve got a lot of running to do!

I have a sudden urge to listen to my Soft Cell 45's...
